Cookie Policy

This page explains exactly what cookies Poll City sets in your browser, why we set them, and how you can control them. We have kept this as short and straightforward as possible — because our cookie use is minimal.

What Is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser when you visit a website. Cookies help websites remember who you are between page loads. Not all cookies are the same — some are necessary for a site to work at all, others are used for tracking and advertising.

Cookies Poll City Sets

Poll City sets only one category of cookies: session authentication cookies. These are strictly necessary for the platform to work.

Cookie NamePurposeDurationType
next-auth.session-tokenKeeps you logged in to your Poll City account. Required for all authenticated routes.30 daysHttpOnly · Secure · SameSite=Lax
next-auth.csrf-tokenProtects login and sign-out forms from cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks.SessionHttpOnly · Secure · SameSite=Lax
next-auth.callback-urlRemembers where to redirect you after signing in. Set only during the sign-in flow.SessionHttpOnly · Secure · SameSite=Lax

These cookies are set only after you start a sign-in flow or log in. No cookies are set to visitors browsing public pages (marketing site, public legal documents, public PCS profiles).

What Poll City Does NOT Set

The following categories of cookies are not used by Poll City at all:

  • Advertising cookies: We do not run advertising and have no need to track you for ad targeting purposes.
  • Cross-site tracking cookies: We do not participate in any cross-site tracking networks or advertising exchanges.
  • Third-party analytics cookies: We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other third-party analytics tool that sets tracking cookies in your browser.
  • Persistent preference cookies: We do not store theme preferences, language preferences, or similar settings in cookies. These are stored server-side in your account profile if you are logged in.

Third-Party Services and Cookies

Some third-party services we use may set their own cookies under their own domains:

  • Stripe: Used for payment processing. Stripe may set security-related cookies during the checkout flow to prevent fraud. These are governed by Stripe’s Privacy Policy.

These cookies are set only when you interact with those third-party services (for example, when you complete a payment). They are not set on Poll City’s own pages.

Legal Basis

The session cookies listed above are classified as “strictly necessary” under Canadian privacy law and do not require your prior consent. They cannot be switched off without breaking the login system. By choosing to create a Poll City account and sign in, you accept that these cookies are required.

Managing Cookies

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies, or to alert you before a cookie is set. Refusing the session authentication cookies will prevent you from logging in to Poll City.

Browser cookie controls: Settings in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge each allow you to clear, block, or manage cookies. See your browser’s help documentation for instructions.
