Community Guidelines

Effective date: May 28, 2026

Poll City Social exists to strengthen Canadian democracy. These guidelines set the standard for how everyone on the platform — voters, candidates, and officials — treats each other and participates in civic life. They exist not to limit what you can say, but to protect the space so everyone can participate freely.

1. What Poll City Social Is For

Poll City Social is a civic engagement platform — not a general-purpose social media app. Its purpose is to connect Canadians to the people who represent them and to the issues that matter in their community. That means it has a narrower focus and higher standard than most social platforms.

What belongs here:

  • Questions for elected officials and candidates about local issues
  • Opinions on civic policy, local issues, and community matters
  • Community polls on matters of public interest
  • Civic group discussion about shared local priorities
  • Support for candidates or parties you believe in

What does not belong here: general social content, commercial promotions, content unrelated to civic life, and anything listed in the prohibited sections below.

2. Prohibited Content

The following content is not permitted on Poll City Social and will be removed:

Harassment & Threats

Content that threatens, intimidates, bullies, or encourages others to harm any person. This includes veiled or conditional threats, and persistent unwanted contact.

Impersonation

Claiming to be an elected official, candidate, public figure, or Poll City employee when you are not. Creating accounts intended to deceive others about who they are communicating with.

Voter Suppression

False information about when, where, or how to vote. Content designed to discourage eligible voters from voting. Any intimidation targeting voters based on how they might vote.

Election Misinformation

Deliberately false claims about election results, candidate eligibility, voting rules, or election administration. This applies during campaigns and after elections.

Hate Speech

Content that attacks, demeans, or calls for discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics under the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Illegal Content

Content that violates Canadian federal or provincial law, including defamatory statements, criminal harassment, obscene material, and content that facilitates illegal activity.

Spam & Manipulation

Automated posting, purchased followers or poll votes, coordinated inauthentic behaviour, repeatedly posting identical content, and directing commercial messages at other users.

Privacy Violations

Posting private personal information — home addresses, phone numbers, financial details, or private images — of any individual without their explicit consent.

3. Prohibited Behaviour

In addition to prohibited content, the following behaviours are not permitted:

  • Using Poll City Social to organise voter intimidation at polling stations or elsewhere
  • Using the platform on behalf of a foreign principal to interfere in a Canadian election, as prohibited by the Canada Elections Act
  • Creating multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension or to artificially amplify votes, follows, or content engagement
  • Accessing another person’s account without their permission
  • Attempting to reverse-engineer, hack, scrape, or disrupt the Poll City Social platform
  • Using the platform to contact or target users with commercial solicitation unrelated to their civic interests

4. How to Report Content or Users

If you see content or behaviour that violates these guidelines, please report it. Reporting is confidential — the person you report will not be told that you reported them.
